Former President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will be participating in a “major interview” with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk next week. Trump’s announcement comes as the 2024 presidential race heats up ahead of the November election.
In a Tuesday post on Truth Social, the former president wrote, “ON MONDAY NIGHT I’LL BE DOING A MAJOR INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK — Details to follow!”
Trump’s announcement of an interview with Musk comes after the Tesla CEO endorsed his presidential campaign last month following the July 13 assassination attempt against the former president at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Sharing a video of Trump in the aftermath of the assassination attempt, Musk wrote, “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
The Post Millennial reported that some people have speculated that the August 12 interview Trump announced will be with podcaster Lex Friedman due to a recent video where Friedman told Musk that he was gong to be interviewing the former president and invited him to “stop by” for the interview. In response to the invitation, Musk told Friedman, “Yeah, sure, I’ll stop in.”
According to The Post Millennial, Musk previously revealed that he voted for President Joe Biden and repeatedly voted for Democratic candidates in U.S. elections. However, prior to his endorsement of Trump, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO had increasingly expressed support for the former president’s policies. Musk also restored Trump’s account on X, formerly Twitter, after purchasing the social media platform.
In light of Musk’s recent endorsement, Trump has appeared to change his view of electric vehicles. While the former president still believes Americans should have a choice whether they want to drive gas-powered or electric vehicles and should not be forced to transition to only electric vehicles, he recently expressed his support for electric cars at a campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’m for electric cars. I have to be because Elon endorsed me very strongly,” Trump told his supporters at the Atlanta rally. “So I have no choice.”
