Two people have been confirmed killed after a substantial tornado hit the town of Cole, south of Oklahoma City, Wednesday evening.
This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates as more information becomes available.
The tornado leveled homes in the area, destroyed a wedding venue, and came amid an outbreak of severe weather, including other tornadoes, across the region, Accuweather reported.
Search and rescue operations are still underway. A spokesperson for the sheriff told News 9 that it would be reasonable to expect more deaths based on the level of damage to the area.
Video posted on social media by Reed Timmer, formerly of the TV series “Storm Chasers,” gave a view of what the tornado looked like from the ground. He said at least four homes had been damaged.
A tweet by the National Weather Service warning of the tornado at 7:58 p.m. described it as “significant” and “erratic.”
