Former President Donald Trump shared a video on his social media platform Truth Social mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign announcement Wednesday night.
The video features a fake Twitter Space with DeSantis, Elon Musk, George Soros, Klaus Schwab, Dick Cheney, Hitler, the Devil and the FBI. The group chatters as Musk struggles to make the Space function properly, a parody of DeSantis’ real glitch-ridden announcement on the platform.
DeSantis also playfully mocked the malfunctioning Twitter Space after this announcement with a video declaring he “broke the internet.”
“Hi, this is Governor Ron DeSantis. I’m running for president of the United States to lead our Great American Comeback. We announced that on Twitter Spaces earlier tonight and it broke the internet because so many people were excited about being on that Twitter Space,” DeSantis said.
Widely considered Trump’s top competitor in the 2024 GOP primary, DeSantis filed the required Federal Election Commission paperwork and tweeted a campaign video before his first-of-its-kind announcement on Twitter.
DeSantis was raised in Dunedin, Florida, and after playing baseball at Yale, he earned his law degree from Harvard Law School. He then joined the U.S. navy as a JAG officer, deploying to Iraq where he served as an adviser to U.S. Navy SEALs.

In addition to Trump and DeSantis, other Republicans who have thrown their hat in the ring include popular conservative Larry Elder, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott.
Earlier this week, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said he “will not run for President in 2024 under any circumstances” after a political action committee called “Draft Tucker” was launched in an apparent attempt to pressure Carlson into joining the presidential race.
