On February 15, authorities in Kyiv announced that the city’s air-defense forces had shot down “most” of what they said were six Russian balloons that had appeared over the city and may have been carrying intelligence equipment or reflectors to interfere with the air-defense system of Ukraine. The balloons were said to have appeared over the city. In addition, the statement alluded to the possibility that the Russian side may have dispatched the balloons in an effort to locate and deplete the Ukrainian air-defense systems. The Russian side has not made any statements regarding the balloons at this time.
