The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is searching for an Iranian intelligence officer who has allegedly plotted the assassination of current and former U.S. government officials in a “revenge” operation prompted by the killing of former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Qasem Soleimani under former president Donald Trump’s administration in 2020.

The FBI’s field office in Miami shared a public alert last week, requesting information on 42-year-old Majid Dastjani Farahani.

“Majid Dastjani Farahani, an Iranian intelligence officer, is wanted for questioning in connection with the recruitment of individuals for various operations in the United States, to include lethal targeting of current and former United States Government officials as revenge for the killing of IRGC-QF Commander Qasem Soleimani,” the FBI stated.

The FBI explained that Farahani is also believed to have recruited individuals for “surveillance activities” on businesses, religious sites, and other U.S. facilities. According to the FBI, Farahani is believed to have acted either directly or indirectly on behalf of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

Pictures of the Iranian intelligence officer have been posted on X, formerly Twitter. In addition to the pictures of Farahani, the FBI released a detailed description of the Iranian spy, including his date of birth, nationality, and occupation.

U.S. officials told Semafor that former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook were provided 24-hour security following the FBI’s warning that Farahani was targeting current and former U.S. government officials.

The Department of Justice previously indicted a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in 2022 for an alleged plot to assassinate John Bolton, who formerly served as Trump’s national security advisor.

According to The Daily Wire, Soleimani was killed by a U.S. drone strike under the Trump administration in January of 2020. The Iranian military leader is believed to have been linked to 17% of all U.S. personnel deaths throughout the Iraq War, inflicting hundreds of casualties on U.S. service members.

Following Soleimani’s death in 2020, several of Iran’s leading officials threatened to get “revenge” on the United States. According to The Times of Israel, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed that the devastating terrorist attack on Israel in October was “one of the revenges” for the death of Soleimani.
