According to a Gallup poll released on Monday, the #1 concern confronting the United States is its government. Over a fifth (21%) of poll respondents named inadequate leadership as the most critical issue, surpassing inflation, which received only 15% of votes.
In a rare display of bipartisanship, 24% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, as well as 18% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents, agreed that government inefficiency was the most serious problem.
Inflation was ranked second by both parties, with 18% of Republicans citing it as the most important concern, compared to 11% of Democrats. Another 18% of Republicans were more concerned with immigration, which ranked sixth among Democrats.

Despite a generally bleak economic outlook, 64% of poll respondents felt it was “a excellent moment to get a decent employment in the United States.” The pollster’s Economic Confidence Index, which is calculated based on respondents’ current and expected economic trends, remains negative at -39, but it has improved marginally since peak inflation last summer.
President Joe Biden’s and Congress’ approval ratings remained stable at 41% and 21%, respectively.
