Republican 2024 presidential candidate and Michigan businessman Perry Johnson officially endorsed former President Donald Trump’s campaign Monday after announcing the suspension of his own campaign last week.
Announcing his endorsement of the former president, Johnson tweeted, “Having suspended my campaign, I am officially endorsing @realDonaldTrump for President of the United States. We must beat @joebiden to save this country and Donald Trump is the only candidate who can do it.”
Johnson also shared his campaign’s full statement Monday, highlighting Trump’s accomplishments during his first term in the White House and emphasizing his belief that Trump is the “only remaining GOP candidate who can defeat President Joe Biden” in a potential rematch of the 2020 election.
“After suspending my campaign for President on Friday, there is now only one candidate in this race who can provide a solution to our nation’s economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat Joe Biden at the ballot box,” Johnson stated. “That person is Donald Trump.”
Johnson added, “During President Trump’s first term, our nation saw historic peace agreements, no new wars, an economic revival, and forged a new path forward away from corrupt, establishment career politicians.”
Johnson noted that he supported Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections and was “proud” to give the former president his “full endorsement once again” as Trump campaigns to be the Republican nominee for president in the 2024 election.

“I look forward to assisting in efforts to elect him next year and uniting with other conservatives to defeat Joe Biden in November,” Johnson stated.
According to The Daily Wire, Johnson, age 75, announced his presidential campaign in March. His campaign largely focused on the “Two Cents Plan” he promoted as a way to “end inflation and solve the debt crisis” by cutting two cents from every dollar of federal discretionary spending.
In his campaign suspension announcement statement, Johnson said, “I ran for President with the single focus of ensuring that the country my children inherit is just as extraordinary as the American in which I grew up. I was worried that wouldn’t happen.”
While Johnson criticized the Republican National Committee for what he described as the “appalling” process of the 2024 GOP primary, particularly the qualifications needed for candidates to appear on the debate stage, he explained, “With no opportunity to share my vision on the debate stage, I have decided at this time, suspending my campaign is the right thing to do.”
By announcing the suspension of his campaign last week, Johnson joined former Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who each have dropped out of the GOP presidential primary race. However, unlike Johnson, Hurd has endorsed former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley after dropping out of the race.
