Doug Burgum Tapped by Trump for Secretary of Interior During Mar-a-Lago Speech

Doug Burgum has been picked to be Secretary of Interior by President Trump during a speech at an America First Policy Institute gala from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The announcement was an unexpected surprise to the attendees, who included the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, Robert Kennedy Jr., Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Tulsi Gabard, Newt Gingrich, and many others.  Hollywood stars John Voight and Sylvester Stallone also made appearances.

On December 15, 2016, Doug Burgum became North Dakota’s 33rd governor. Doug offers a business leader’s perspective on reviving our main streets, diversifying the economy, and generating jobs fit for the twenty-first century.

North Dakota currently has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, the third-highest GDP per capita in the country, and the second-highest energy production per capita.

North Dakota has led the country in innovation under Governor Burgum’s direction, fostering a boom in the technology, energy, and agricultural industries. By working together and addressing opportunities and difficulties with mutual respect and understanding, his efforts to promote engagement with the five tribal nations that share North Dakota’s landscape have significantly enhanced state-tribal relations.

Throughout each legislative session, Governor Burgum has pushed for substantial tax relief for North Dakotans, and in 2023, he spearheaded the effort to enact the biggest income tax relief package in the state’s history.

Trump has quickly made a series of appointments since being elected president of the United States in a landslide victory on November 5th, 2024.
