The former director of the DHS’s defunct Disinformation Governance Board Nina Jankowicz issued a call for supporters to help her crowdfund a lawsuit against Fox News.
In a video uploaded to YouTube Thursday titled, “Help Nina Jankowicz Fight Fox News,” the “expert on disinformation and democratization” claims the network spread “malicious, reckless lies” about her that led to her resignation.
Featuring clips of different Fox News anchors discussing her, Jankowicz claimed, “Fox News launched overly personalized false and incendiary coverage of me, mainstreaming online conspiracy theories to tens of millions of Americans.”
In July 2022, after much backlash, the DHS issued a statement scrapping plans to form the Disinfo Governance Board, saying, “At this point, we have concluded that there is no need for a Disinformation Governance Board.”
Jankowicz’s video also features messages she supposedly received from upset social media users, many of whom referred to her as a “cunt.”
“Fox News irrevocably changed my life when they force fed lies about me to tens of millions of their viewers,” she claimed.
“Fox can’t keep getting away with targeting Americans with their hateful rhetoric and lies. Trying to silence professionals for doing their jobs is not journalism, it’s vigilantism and it’s ruining lives. That’s why I’m seeking justice.”
Of course, Jankowicz neglects to mention Fox took interest in her after it was discovered she possessed obvious partisan leanings and participated in spreading actual disinformation, such as claiming that Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian disinformation.”
Such blatantly obvious bias could certainly be construed as a conflict of interest for someone appointed to head a government agency tasked with deciding what political discourse to censor.
Thus far, the fundraiser has fetched a mere $7,200 (of a goal of $100,000); however, if it did get fully funded it might be interesting to see how legal counsel would navigate the pitfalls set up by Jankowicz herself.
