Rolling Stone columnist Jay Michaelson defended the Dalai Llama telling a young boy to “suck” on his tongue, calling the interaction “playful.”
Controversial video from India recently emerged showing the Dalai Lama, after asking the young boy to kiss him on the cheek and lips, coercing the child to suck his tongue.
This sick, disturbing video of the Dalai Lama making a child suck his tongue emerged months ago, but it has only just now made waves on social media—prompting the “holy” man to issue an apology. Why wasn’t it a problem for him before it went viral? pic.twitter.com/riVqugvPgl

But apparently Michaelson, who called meeting the Dalai Lama “one of the most powerful experiences” he’s ever had, sees nothing wrong with children sucking adults tongues.
“The Dalai Lama is a very playful human being and we may see this in a weird, kind of gross sexualized way, but this is about as sexual as a bowl of plain rice. There’s nothing sexual or erotic happening in this encounter,” Michaelson said Monday on “CNN Tonight.”

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota pushed back on Michaelson’s bizarre defense of the spiritual leader, noting the child on his lap appeared to be uncomfortable.
“The boy doesn’t want to do it,” she said.
Somm Consulting president Evan Siegfried jumped in, noting the boy’s body language clearly reveals the boy did not want to suck the Dalai Llama’s tongue.
“Shouldn’t the Lama have read this boy’s body language? Watching that video, I saw the boy recoil and seem unsure. Yes, we didn’t get to see his face. Maybe he was smiling, but at the same time the Lama should have also been respectful there,” he said.
The Root reporter Jessica Washington agreed with Michaelson’s claim that the interaction wasn’t “sexual,” but it was nevertheless “gross.”
The Dalai Lama issued a statement of apology, but rather than addressing the inappropriate behavior directly, he instead expressed regret for the “hurt” his “words” caused.
